Bomb strapped to teenage girl's neck in Sydney

Police are trying to defuse a bomb strapped around the neck of a terrified teenage girl at a multimillion pound mansion in Sydney, Australia. Cops raced to the Mosman home of the 18-year-old victim, who is part of one of Sydney's wealthiest families, after she raised the alarm. A senior police officer has described the device as a 'collar bomb' and it's believed a ransom note has been attached to the girl's neck.

SHARIA law is already being practised in western Sydney, with hundreds of religious divorces granted by imams. The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils has asked a Federal Government inquiry into multiculturalism to permit sharia law, especially in divorce cases. FIVE Sydney men have been found guilty of conspiring to plan a terrorist attack using high-powered guns and homemade bombs designed to cause mass death and destruction on Australian soil. A Supreme Court jury took four weeks and three days to find Mohamed Ali Elomar, 44, Abdul Rakib Hasan, 40, Mohammed Omar Jamal, 25, Moustafa Cheikho, 32, and his uncle Khaled Cheikho, 36, guilty of conspiring to do acts in preparation for a terrorist act or acts. A VICTORIAN court has found three men guilty of planning a terrorist attack on an Australian army base in Sydney. One dead in Sydney plane crash (plane crashes on school playground, children injured)

Authorities say at least one person died when a light plane crashed outside a primary school at Canley Vale in south-western Sydney this morning. Police say the twin-engine Piper Chieftain caught fire after hitting power lines and crashing into the front yard of a house on Canley Vale Road just after 8:00am. A local told ABC News Breakfast that the crash happened only one house down from Canley Vale Public School. All the children at the school are safe and have been evacuated to a nearby park.

PLANS are still being made for US President Barack Obama's Australian visit in a few weeks' time, despite concerns he may have to cancel again. Mr Obama is grappling with the US's worst ever environmental disaster, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Efforts to block the spill have failed and the White House says it might leak until August. Mr Obama is due to visit Canberra and Sydney in mid-June, but there is speculation he may feel the pressure to stay at home and deal with the crisis.
